“I want to see the country” is a phrase many of us have heard…usually accompanied by “When I retire and have time to travel”. A great way to “see the country” before you retire…is to take a different route each time you travel by car or train. An easy way to do this is to “collect counties”. Try it!

A friend once designed a map of the US with counties. It was very impressive.
You may have noticed the link to a county collecting website in this post! 🙂 I also happen to have a U.S. county map in my office…which I use for my “old school” tracking of counties visited.
Take the blue roads.
These are the back country roads that are printed as thin blue lines on the map
Yes indeed! I co-wrote a song titled “Blue Roads”. I will post it.
BLUE ROADS
Got out the map
Lookin’ for my loyal friends
I know what’s on tap
Curves and bends
There you are
Linkin’ up the nodes
Blue Roads!
Blue Roads!
I need a way out
From the same old route
To escape this bout
Of bore and doubt
There you are
Linkin’ up the nodes
Blue Roads!
Blue Roads!
Goin’ out of my way
To lighten my load
It’s a great blue day
Don’t matter which way we go.
There you are
Linkin’ up the nodes
Blue Roads!
Blue Roads!
You always take me far away
From my blues
I just can’t lose
When I’m trippin’ on you
Blue Roads!
Blue Roads!
From here to there
You’re the best bet
To fill my senses
Goin’ out on you
Every chance I get!
